THE SOIL QUALITY: OLIANAS’ SECRET RESOURCES

From sand to limestone, from clay to volcanic terrains. the dazzling diversity of the soils is one of olianas’ secret resources. Each grape variety behaves differently. Our indigenous vines, cannonau, bovale and semidano as well as the aromatic nasco and malvasia, provide varying impressions. All depends on the vineyard, and therefore the soil, where they grow.

A SENSATIONAL TERROIR IN THE HEART OF SARCIDANO

Intense sunlight, distinctive soil, and constant ventilation all make this land perfect for vineyard planting and growing. The vineyards’ soil comprises both good skeleton and sand, allowing for excellent drainage. Capable of storing rainwater in the depths and building generous water reserves for the summer, it also ensures an ideal balance between fruit and foliage. Meantime, the light and continuous ventilation guarantee the development of the fruit’s aromatic profiles and an excellent polyphenolic ripening of all grapes, while mitigating the summer heat by ensuring a high daily temperature range. Thus, the pedoclimatic factors impact the Olianas Sardinian wines, granting freshness and elegance to the Vermentino di Sardegna, and fruity notes to the red wines.

STRIKING GEOLOGICAL DIVERSITY

Nearly all types of Sardinian soil can be found within a radius of ten kilometers around the Olianas winery. All, the volcanic and the granitic as well as the calcareous-sandy and calcareous-clay ones, are beautifully endowed with skeleton and sand. The calcareous-sandy and granitic soils with noticeable conglomerates, host white grapes, including vermentino di Sardegna vines. The red grape varieties, which comprise both bovale and cannonau, grow and thrive in calcareous-clayey and volcanic soils.
